Smithing

Complete metalworking skill definition with smelting and forging content

Metalworking is the cornerstone production skill, transforming raw ores from Mining into bars, then forging those bars into weapons, armor, tools, and construction materials. From a copper dagger to a voidstone platebody, every piece of metal equipment passes through a smith's hands.

Tips

  • Always use the best hammer you can — speed multipliers add up
  • Smelt bars before forging sessions to have stock ready
  • Nails and arrowheads give solid XP for low bar cost
  • Smithing Contracts (level 25) are excellent for bonus XP
  • Superheat (level 50) lets you smelt anywhere — great for remote mining
  • Silver and gold are for jewelry (Lapidary), not combat gear
  • Armor trimming is cosmetic-focused with a minor magic defense bonus

Lore
The ring of hammer on anvil is the heartbeat of civilization. From the first copper tools that tamed the wilderness to the impossible alloys that now hold back the void, metalworking has been the art that defines ages. Bronze gave us cities. Iron gave us empires. Steel built nations. But the smith's craft did not end with mortal metals. When astralite fell from the heavens and draconic ore was pried from dragon lairs, the forge became a bridge between the mundane and the magical. The greatest smiths learn to work not just with heat and hammer, but with the fundamental forces that bind matter itself.
