A rock-hard beetle with powerful mandibles and a nearly impenetrable shell.

Examine

A beetle the size of a hunting hound, its carapace a dome of interlocking chitin plates that gleam like polished obsidian in the desert sun. Armored scarabs are living fortresses — their shells can turn aside sword blows and arrows with equal ease. Only blunt force seems to crack them reliably. They are territorial rather than predatory, guarding the ruins and rocky outcroppings where they build their nests. Disturb one and it will clamp down with mandibles strong enough to shear through leather and chainmail alike.
